Reports of NYPD inspections of firearms in private homes?

Clenched fist salute: Billy, who has more.

How could anyone live in a place like that?
The STASI makes bedcheck on your guns?
Thay they even know you own one is outrageous.

I’d guess this happened, if it happened, in one of the Burroughs, not Nassau or Suffolk County’s?   But no matter, the permit laws are just as draconian regardless of where one lives in downstate NY.   _Each_ handgun permitted per owner with possession of said handgun with serial number to only be handled by the user listed on the permit.   Sharing/shooting handguns of which one does not have a permit is illegal.   Initial obtaining of a permit to allow the purchase/possession of a handgun takes a lengthy process involving local law enforcement, a judge, something like three letters from other upstanding individuals vouching to ones integrity, and most likely an investigator roaming ones neighbourhood to interview folks who live nearby your residence to see how those neighbours would like to have a handgun owner living nearby.

Public discussions of these issues would be embarrassing for much of the rest of the us in the US so I wildly speculate this might be part of the reason the post was pulled from public access?

That’s why I will NEVER register my guns. Not a single one. Ever. For any reason. If I buy one from an FFL and they come to my door and ask to see it, I’ll ask to see their warrant. IF they reply that no warrant is necessary, because registration is mandatory, I’ll deny owning any guns. By the time they produce a warrant, my guns will be gone. “I’m sorry, officers. I lost all of my guns in a tragic boating accident. I’ll give you GPS coordinates. The US Coast Guard can affirm my distress signal and where they picked me up in the ocean.”

    Thanks

Just this evening the conversation shifted to how much more hunter friendly maryland is than Northern Virginia, and that we could get a nice big house on some acreage with no discernable increase in commuting times for less than we could sell our place for.

But this post reminds me of why it doesn’t matter. I simply can’t live in a police state anymore – be it New York, New Jersey, or Maryland.

Believe or not, this is a blessing in disguise. This is fine place to pick up where Heller left off because it deals with unnecessary and superfluous inspections concerning the gun owner.

Why should a gun owner have to prove that the weapons in his possession are his or hers? Once somebody has passed the subsequent background checks, what is the purpose of these examinations? An inspection or search must be based upon some type of probable cause, and just “checking up” on your guns is not sufficient probable cause.

Yes, this could be a ‘blessing’.   But, I don’t know?   New Yorker’s have been putting up with this situation for a very long time now.   Each time the pols meet in Albany, there is with certainly an additional push for even more anti-civil rights law (aka common-sense gun laws).

I find it ironic that the birthplace of the NRA (Nov 1871) also happens to be the same place (New York) today with some of the most odious anti-civil rights laws (see 2nd Amendment) in the country.

That this shocks anyone amazes me.

NYC has been a non-contiguous part of Greater Europe for over a century now.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
