More mainstreaming survivalism
The rise of suburban survivalists:
These people snapping up everything from water purification tablets to thermal blankets shatter the survivalist stereotype: they are mostly urban professionals with mortgages, SUVs, solid jobs and a twinge of embarrassment about their newfound hobby.

The Mormons (Sorry, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) will eventually figure out this is a great opportunity to evangelize and recruit. The LDS have been suburban survivalists since they built their first suburbs.
This acknowledgment of people’s fears is a repeat of history from the 1960s. My parents had water and food stored in our basement as the Cuban Missile Crisis approached, at the suggestion of the federal government. Today the same governement suggests that 3 to 7 days of self sufficiency is needed by every household in case of a disaster.

People are looking at history and current events and putting those together. All the signs and economic news point to hard times ahead and a drastic change in the standard of living for most Americans.
It is true more people then ever are attempting to become more self-reliant, even if those supplies are never needed, it helps the prepared sleep better at night know they are on hand.
Over the past two months my blog “The Survivalist Blog” has grown by nearly 1,000 visits per day. It’s not just a bunch of paranoids in camo anymore.
