Since I sent you the links to those photos, I’ve learned some more interesting stuff about the SF Gun Exchange.

So they managed to keep running until about 11 years ago, when San Francisco drove them out of business with ridiculous taxes ($24 per $1000 of revenue vs. $1.20 per $1000 for other retailers).
