Veto Override
The Commercial Squeal notes that the battle to override the guns in restaurants that serve alcohol veto is heating up.
Also, the TFA wants to publicly identify each law enforcement officer and prosecutor who attended Gov. Phil Bredesen’s veto of a bill to allow people with handgun carry permits to take their weapons into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. Interesting. I sort of assumed they were ordered to be there for political posturing. Also, Glenn notes some interesting spin:
If government officials do it to citizens, it might be an effort to chill people’s speech. But when citizens do it to government officials, it’s called political accountability.

It wouldn’t surprise me if some were ordered to be there. We were strongly, STRONGLY encouraged to attend some bill signings in my state this year, some of which bills I vehemently opposed, as did other officers. Remember, what rank and file officers want is often very different from what staff officers (who are primarily concerned with liability issues) want.
For instance, our state union helped remove a provision from a self-defense bill that would have removed the concealed carry permit requirement in Montana. 80% of cops in my department SUPPORTED removing that provision. But at least here, unions at the state level tend to get far more input from the folks at the top levels of the departments than the foot soldiers.
