The flaw: it requires reporting

I am curious how this bill would work:

As amended, HB2249 sets up a system for collection of records on anyone found mentally ill by a court and providing them to the FBI and TBI for inclusion in the background check database. The records will otherwise be confidential.

My concern about this whole mentally ill thing is that far too many people are capable of declaring just about anyone mentally ill. Eventually, anyone could be declared mentally ill just because that person wants to own a gun.

Oops. I forgot to mention that I have absolutely no faith in the mental health industry.

Speaking of mental illness and faith . . . you do know, don’t you, that some psychiatrists consider anyone with religious beliefs to be ill . . .

I’m confused as to what Uncle believes to be the flaw in this…

Personally I find the flaw in the “mentally adjudicated” thing to be that it can not be easily reversed.
I have known people that were adjudicated as teenagers because of suicidal thoughts due to stress or because they came from bad families where the parents would rather have them on drugs than actually parent them.
Now these people have no criminal history adn are sane by any reasonable standard and yet they can’t legally own guns.

Not to mention how safe those records would be in the hands of our benevolent government agencies.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
