May issue
Faced with the potential loss of 300 deputies due to budget cuts, the Sacramento County sheriff may consider issuing more concealed weapons permits.
Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness said at a public budget workshop in May that if the cuts happen, people would wait “long, long periods of time for the most basic public safety services, specifically uniformed officers in the field.”
In California, permits are entirely discretionary and usually tied to political connections.

California is so advanced that they have medieval methods of government. Um, I mean, that *is* advanced, isn’t it? Sort of? A little bit, maybe?

Chas, I think what you mean, instead of advanced, is Progressive….

Apparently they are quite liberal with permits in eastern CA. Practically shall-issue.

The sheriff is using what he conceives as scare tactics, that is, the possibility of more CCW licensees, in an attempt to stave off budget cuts.
He sees suggesting an improvement in citizen self defense as a terrifying prospect to use in his budget protection efforts. This is pitiful.
The very, very positive response to the possible increase in CCW, and the complaints about his denials of CCW applications, in the comments to the article were, I am sure, a bit disconcerting to him. If he even read them.

California does NOT have a medieval form of government (nor an advanced one), it has a Politburo run by Democrats for their own advancement and benefit.

As a Sacramento county resident, I would support the firing of a few hundred deputies to reestablish the right to bear arms. In my eyes, it’s a small price to pay and would actually improve public safety.
But Mikee is right. This is just scare tactics. The only way they’ll issue more CCW licenses is when the courts force them to.
