Man with a gun in a park
It’s become an epidemic.
No shots fired. Suspect had a 1911 and 25 rounds of ammo. Much birthday celebrating.
Well, later today. I’ll be at one. Attending some close friends’ birthday party for their son. New law and all. I wonder if I can refrain from shooting kids. Because that’s what Jeff Woods thinks I’ll do.
The Governor said of the Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act that he let become law without signing:
This bill is not about firearms. It is about a fringe constitutional theory that I believe will be quickly dispensed with by the federal courts.
He calls federalism and the tenth amendment fringe and then proceeds to say:
While I share the General Assembly’s commitment to federalism, this legislation contravenes our Constitution.
ACK takes the governor to task on his inconsistency. And I agree. But I wonder why he did not veto it? Unless he realized how much damage was done when he broke a campaign promise and vetoed the guns in restaurants bill. Maybe he is considering further office in the state.
On June 11, the top law enforcement officials of nearly half the states signed a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, expressing their opposition to reinstatement of the federal ban on semi-automatic firearms.
Tennessee’s Attorney General was not among them. I find that odd. He’s usually a pro-gun sort of guy.
If you’re going to be a carjacker, it’s probably a helpful job skill to know how to drive a stick.
Carry in state parks is OK now. But in local parks, it doesn’t go into effect until 9/1.
If you have a handgun carry permit, you can keep a sort of loaded rifle or shotgun in your vehicle. You can have the magazine in but not one in the chamber. No, I don’t know why that’s in there. Odd.
A mini review. After my bleg, many folks suggested I get the CTAC or MTAC from CompTac. I opted for the MTAC since I don’t always wear a T-Shirt.
Here’s a look at the holster with my ParaUSA in it:

Initial impressions were that I really liked. It was comfortable. I could wear a commander-sized 1911 while wearing shorts and a T-Shirt. And I could even tuck my shirt in. So, really dig the holster.
But there was one problem. If I had the holster at the 5 o’clock position and sat down, the magazine would become unseated. Seems as though the holster would come into contact with me and the bit of leather by the magazine release would hit the release. Handy photo to illustrate:

I called CompTac and they were very eager to please after I explained the situation. Their customer service was excellent. They said to send it back and they’d send me another. And they did. But I have the same issue. Seems the be how the holster is designed. I still carry with it but in the 3 o’clock position where the magazine ejecting is not a problem. The other option is to try to cut off a little bit of leather right there where the arrow is. But that would screw up the stitching.
Overall, it’s a good, quality holster and is the most comfortable tuckable holster I’ve ever used. But I can’t carry in the 5 o’clock position, which actually does a bit better job concealing than 3 o’clock. If that’s not an issue for you, I heartily recommend the holster.
Update: Based on comments here and my own experience with their customer service, I sent CompTac a link to this post.
Update: here. Turns out, that is not how it is designed.
One solution is to not let your clothes catch fire. But in their defense, you sometimes catch fire without noticing it. In other news, there was a time when I did posts longer than three lines.
The house sponsor recalled the bill. Everybody said some sort of deal had been made. Bredesen denied such a deal, which is odd because everyone else said there was one. The senate opted not to play along and did not agree to withdraw the bill. Looks like a veto is coming and it will be overridden. John Harris summarized the shenanigans here.
Not sure what’s gotten into the ordinarily pro-gun Bredesen lately. After a strong second amendment record, he breaks a campaign promise and vetoes the guns in restaurants bill. Now this.
I expect a veto today.
Although I agree with Linoge on a philosophical basis I also am of the opinion that once our enemies violated that principle (Hughes Amendment, Lautenberg Amendment, etc.) it would be unethical for us to defend our specific enumerated right to keep and bear arms on an unequal playing field. We are only playing by their rules.
TriggerFinger on the Chicago Gun Case:
Additionally, one of the plaintiffs purchased a rifle through the Federal Civilian Marksmanship Program, which shipped the rifle directly to his home in Chicago. This prevents registration of that rifle in Chicago permanently, because of the requirement to register before taking possession. It also sets up an interesting tension between the government legally sending a rifle to a place where it is impossible to legally own it. That same resident tried to register the rifle, was denied, and appealed the denial administratively, and was denied again.
Brilliant.
Feds to regulate tobacco. Plenty of reasons why this is dumb but the most striking is that when regulation is supported by players in the industry (in this case, Phillip Morris), you have to wonder exactly what’s going on.
Bob Corker disappoints and supports the bill.
Had a storm yesterday. Our damage wasn’t quite as bad as JRs but we did come home to this:

That’s the kids kiddie pool in the field behind the house. That pool is 4.5 X 9 for scale. Also, apparently darn good quality since it did not pop on it’s journey.
As far as I can tell, this guy is on trial for photoshopping the heads of minors onto the bodies of adult nude models:
It was during the suspension that a district investigator searching Stelmack’s office found a briefcase with the five images depicting the faces of two girls affixed to copies of a nude 19-year-old woman’s body.
Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s creepy and I wouldn’t want the guy as principal of a school but that’s illegal?
Hey, I was hotlinking your images to run my business website. Put them back or I will sue you.
This isn’t about their freedom to contract. This isn’t about their freedom to marry. These were already freely available, no one was getting jailed for performing a ceremony, and no one was having their legal contracts overridden. This is purely about the taxpayer subsidy for married couples being extended to same-sex couples
Not really. For example, there is no contract that recognizes that a gay spouse can make medical decisions for his/her incapacitated gay spouse such as exists under normal marriage. No matter what contracts you sign, that decision will be left to who is legally the closest family member. It’s about a bit more than a tax subsidy.
The federal government has proposed over $255,000 in fines against a New Hampshire firearms manufacturing center alleging 60 safety and health violations between November and May.
Officials say inspections at Sturm Ruger & Co. in Newport identified many mechanical, respirator protection, electrical, lead, and fire hazards.
That’ll teach them to get in the EBR market! I kid.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
