I am the featured blogger over at Ammoland this month. I did a brief interview.
New data is out. Most crime (and all violent crime) is down. An increase in burglaries, that looks to be in the North East. And people steal fewer cars.
Dr. Helen tells us the new bible for diagnosing the crazy is out. Seems to be a continuation of the field’s trend to classify normal behavior as some sort of condition (to be treated, of course). The Doc notes it is written by a few, in secret, and with little oversight. What could possibly go wrong?
Gun sales are at record highs. Ammo prices are through the roof. Yet a maker of hunting rifles is about to go under:
Later this morning, Knight Rifle will officially release the news of their decision to cease manufacturing. The official announcement to Knight employees was made last Friday, but officials have avoided speaking with the media in an attempt to keep the lid on the story until June 1.
The trend of high gun sales has not exactly trickled into the hunting market.
Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons:
Gibbons spokesman Joe Hall told NashvillePost.com Gibbons is “adamantly opposed” to guns in bars and restaurants and has said so publicly.
“Gibbons says guns and alcohol don’t mix. He also believes it was wrong to dismiss bar and restaurant owners – a group that opposes gun carry into establishments,” Hall wrote in an e-mail.
But would not veto it since it will pass anyway.
I support the Second Amendment as much as anyone, but I strongly agree with Governor Bredesen and law enforcement officials from across the state that guns and alcohol do not mix. That’s just common sense.
The Commercial Squeal notes that the battle to override the guns in restaurants that serve alcohol veto is heating up.
Also, the TFA wants to publicly identify each law enforcement officer and prosecutor who attended Gov. Phil Bredesen’s veto of a bill to allow people with handgun carry permits to take their weapons into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. Interesting. I sort of assumed they were ordered to be there for political posturing. Also, Glenn notes some interesting spin:
If government officials do it to citizens, it might be an effort to chill people’s speech. But when citizens do it to government officials, it’s called political accountability.
I mentioned it sold at auction. Tam notes that it appears to be a firearm and hopes the buyer/seller dotted all their I’s and crossed their T’s.
Despite the US Government dumping $50B into a company that is too big to fail, GM is filing for bankruptcy. I would think that $50B was to, you know, pay your bills so you wouldn’t go bankrupt. And the best part is the .gov is going to shell out another $30B.
Is the Ammo Shortage the Result of a Government Conspiracy or an NRA Marketing Campaign? The answer is no. But apparently some folks think it’s a big conspiracy by Cerberus and CFR and whatever other bogeyman you feel like adding in there.
Some guy obviously unclear on what it means to be pro-life decided to walk into a church and shoot a doctor who performs abortions.
Traction Control has some big news: Alan Gura the Attorney who won the Heller case in the Supreme Court will be attending Gunblogger Rendezvous in Reno!
Well, I have to go now. Between that, the Glock sponsorship, Cowboy Fast Draw, and the ParaUSA raffle, shaping up to be quite an event. You can get info on Gun Blogger Rendezvous here.
First, Glenn Greenwald, now Ted Rall:
Obama is cute. He is charming. But there is something rotten inside him. Unlike the Republicans who backed George W. Bush, I won’t follow a terrible leader just because I voted for him. Obama has revealed himself. He is a monster, and he should remove himself from power.
You know, I’m starting to think those two crazy kids just have a problem with authority. They’ll be buying guns and stocking up on canned goods soon.
So, she’s pretty much abandoned the pro-gun side now:
She took law-abiding gun owners in upstate New York for a ride and tossed them into the Hudson on her way into Manhattan,
Pretty much.

Heh.
SIH thinks the Brady Campaign dropped the ball:
Cheer up Brady Campaign. Are things really that bad? Someday you might have an overwhelmingly Democratic congress, and President in the Oval Office from a gun unfriendly urban stronghold. Oh wait…
Heh.
Marko started by posting Top Five Most Embarrassing Albums On My iPod Followed by Tam and Sebastian. I don’t actually have an iPod and use my Blackberry but I figured I could still play.
1- Jack’s Big Music Show Season #1: Yes, it’s for kids and I bought it for the kids. But the song Grumpy is catchy.
2 – The Biz Never Sleeps: Biz Markie. There are actually other songs on there that are not Just A Friend.
3 – Extreme II: Pornograffitti: Good songs. Well, one.
4 – Captain and Tennille’s Greatest Hits. Love Will Keep Us Together rocks. I don’t care what you say.
5 – Flashdance: Original Soundtrack. It rocks and you know it.
I’ve always like Phil Bredesen on guns. He’s endorsed by NRA, signed castle doctrine into law, and signed a law that requires local chief law enforcement officers to approve NFA transfers. And he’s even got some decent stuff to say on the right to arms. I’m still trying to figure out why he vetoed the restaurant carry bill.
This looks like a neat idea since you don’t have to modify grips and things. But how do you turn it on? I don’t want to mess with switches and stuff to turn a laser on.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
