single action revolver in .45 colt
Well, they said if we passed carry laws, it’d be like the Wild West.

Bad dude fires many shots, caliber unknown but nobody hurt in a life threatening way. Friend comes in, fires one .45 colt round taking down the bad dude with a life threatening wound and restoring order. Pretty obvious that this friend is a serious dude, prepared both mentally and physically to be a sheepdog. Good for him and the caliber of both his gun and his character.

That is what my father wants to carry, .45 Colt Vaquero in a western holster with 36 loops. So far he has yet to take the CHL class when I offer it.

They do go boom when you want them to. Even if they do no go tap-tap, tap-tap, tap-tap, tap-tap.

The SAA is the most efficient way to get shot while reloading, at least if you’re using smokeless powder. You’d have to go with a muzzleloader to increase your risk. I mean, if you’re carrying a SAA then you are trying to get shot while reloading, aren’t you?
The SAA is a real slow poke, because you have to poke the empty cases out one at a time and rotate the cylinder for each poke. That’s tedious at the range; under fire it would be a nightmare.

IMHO Chas missed the point which was Big Friend had a .45 Colt. One shot, no double tap needed and bad guy is history. Yes a single action revolver is slow to reload but consider the shootings where one of us might be called upon to be Sheepdog. I think that more often than not one well placed, big ol’ .45 bullet will settle matters. In fact I think so much of the idea that I myself carry a .45 Colt. (Mine is double action so reloading is a little faster.)
