Mounting problems
One of the internet gun boards says a suppressor manufacturer has been told by ATF that they can no longer sell mounts unless they are sold with a suppressor. Not sure if it’s true as I haven’t confirmed it. But, if it is, that would mean you can only have one mount per can so you couldn’t have multiple mounts for convenience.

I saw this post in that same thread.
http://www.subguns.com/boards/mgmsg.cgi?read=702199
“Looked that the Cobra that takes multi mounts and you can only buy 1 mount with the suppressor.
“All Cobra M2 sound suppressors are constructed using Sound Tech’s patented baffle design (U.S. Patent #7,073,426) for superior sound reduction. A mount must be purchased with the suppressor. Additional mounts cannot be purchased at this time.” ”
I went to YHM (http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/cobramod.html), and found that to be an accurate statement. Whether or not that is due to the ATF is not stated on that page.

Sounds like its just YHM at this point, I’ve got a mount coming from AAC I ordered today.

Just theorizing here, but I think it depends on the design of the mount and whether it’s part of the suppressor or the rifle.
For example, if the “mount” holds the baffles into the gun, that might reasonably be considered a “part of a silencer.” Pretty much anything that prevents the suppressor from falling apart (on a take-down type suppressor) should reasonably be expected to be considered part of the suppressor, unless the suppressor functions as a pile of unassembled parts.
Then again, I can easily think of several designs for reflex type suppressors (ie, a front mounting point and a rear mounting point behind the muzzle that seals the back of the can) where screwing the tube on over the barrel could hold the baffles in place- would that make the barrel itself a “silencer part” even if it were just an ordinary threaded barrel?
I would love to find out more details about this ruling and where it came from, assuming this whole story is true.

I am currently waiting on a the return of the paperwork on my Yankee Hill can. Last week I picked up my 2 AR uppers after the gunsmith had installed the QD flash hiders. Apparently these are the ones the BATF has the problem with. So do I now have two ARs that need to be registered? I think not but will they see it differently. This is the problem with BATF making up the rules as they go. It is hard to hit a missing target and they know it.
