A win and a loss
Apparently, in yesterday’s reciprocity vote, a number of senators voted yes because they realized the bill would not pass and wanted to better their pro-gun record. Pathetic.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Mark Pryor, this will be remembered the next time you come up for reelection, which unfortunately won’t be for awhile.

“Southerners, who historically promote states’ rights, demanded that the federal government overrule the states on gun laws. John Thune (R-S.D.), who sponsored the measure….”
I’m sure the implication that Sen. Thune is from anywhere southern is unintended (South Dakota being well north of the Mason-Dixon and west of the Mississippi River), but the construction above amuses me.

I was going to point out that all votes are carefully counted before the voting begins. It has always been that way.
So those behaviors are not surprising.

Specter seems to be trying to make sure everyone in Pennsylvania, on both sides of the aisle, are completely PO’d at him.

I shouldn’t have been suprised that Feinstein used a picture of flag draped police coffins to argue against the measure. I shouldn’t have been, but I was.

Feinstein dos’nt care about anyone who is’nt wealthy and connected. And like the Brady bunch, she dances in the blood of the dead to advance her agenda. I have no doubt that she didnt know the names of those dead Police officers or cared to know. She’s a piece of shit!

This kind of thing happens all the time in politics. That doesn’t meant they will vote no next time if it looks like it’s going to pass. It does mean you need to contact your Senator to try to shore up their yes.
In this process everything is negotiable. Remember that.

No vote is ever taken in the House or the Senate without the outcome being known in advance. Then, if there’s margin, and the issue is of any importance, members can vote in such a way as to polish their records with people who normally wouldn’t vote for them.
Both my Senators voted for the Thune amendment although I have no reason to think they’re pro-gun. They’re up for re-election in ’10. Dems in an otherwise red state.

This leads me to think if a similar bill/amendment were to take places, we would get the same or worse results.

You know, I expected a NO vote from RINO scum like Voinovich and that other turd from Ohio. I did not expect a NO vote from Lugar (R-IN). Hell, even Snowe and Collins voted in favor of the thing.
