Potential training aid

A first person shooter (half life) played with a real firearm.

I’ve often wondered why no one has come up with an IPSC or IDPA game for the Wii.

    Hmmm.

I don’t think I could afford the ammo expended in the typical FP Shooter.

I have no idea if the Wii has a gun-shaped controller or not; If not, they should. Hey, the have guitar-shaped ones, after all.

If they do, and it doesn’t suck, I’ll buy it.

They do have a few gun-shaped controllers, but as of yet all the shooty games they have are arcade-style shooters, corny sci-fi games, and Military sims that take pace in WWII theaters, all of which don’t interest me very much.

Shooting “paper” targets on my computer screen with my wiimote would be VERY interesting. As would a military sim in a modern setting.

N has *very* tight controls on what games they approve.
Yes, it seems counter with all of the shooters that are out there, but you have to jump through hoops to get a game approved by N.

I’ve often wondered about the inverse of that question: Why hasn’t IPSC or someone else capitalized on the generation of young men and women who have used firearms in (virtual) self-defense in computer games?

The model for the NRA used to be Dad taking his kids out hunting, but in today’s urban world, kids get used to firearms by fragging each other online not chasing squirrels in the woods.

Get the kids off of the sofa and on to the range. Teach them the Three Rules. Have them run thru a Presidente or two on the clock, or see how hard it is to do a 200 yard headshot with a Garand in real life vs. how hard it is in Call of Duty. Teach them the rights and responsibilities of owning a firearm, and show them that no matter how good their frame rate of their PC, nothing beats actual recoil and the smell of burning powder.

There’s thousands (if not millions) of kids who need to learn the difference between gaming and real life. The NRA needs to adjust their paradigm to adapt to the times, not pine for rural past that is sadly slipping away from us faster and faster each day.

I’m all for getting Counter-Strike kids a little more educated, I just don’t think I’d want to be the one to do it, y’know?

There used to be a competition-style shooting arcade game at a local pizza place here. Me and a friend use to go up there and play it, lots of fun. Scored based on a combination of speed, accuracy, etc. Afterwards I thought “surely someone has made something similar for a console or the PC,” and much to my chagrin I couldn’t find anything. Light guns are old technology, and should work for a game like this. I can’t figure out why they haven’t made one yet.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
