Gun Show Prevention Act

A bill before congress would classify nearly everyone at a gun show as a gun dealer.

As a plain old retailer who does shows (though not for guns), I don’t find the rules that outrageous. To be a vendor at any show, you have to produce a business license, resale permit, etc. in advance. Show operators are usually required by law to collect these things.

As far as calling everyone who attends the show a “vendor,” that’s wrong but people should not be allowed to sell at shows unless they are vendors. This is unfair competition to those who pay for spaces at shows, who pay sales taxes and business license fees, etc. If someone wants to come to a show and sell, then they should pay for the privilege just like the other dealers do. If they don’t want to pay the price, then they can run classified ads or do whatever else “private” sellers do. By putting this into law, this is a great way for gun shows to stop this practice. Why should licensed dealers have to compete with unlicensed dealers in a venue they are paying for?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
