Pet Bleg
The Doc: Any ideas for a non-allergic pet?
She brought this up a blogger lunch a bit back. I told her to check into the labradoodle. They are advertised as such.
Any suggestions?
ETA: Maybe ask your physician? Perhaps they know something or a common allergy medicine can remedy that?

I had a turtle for about 18 years.

Portuguese Water Dogs are relatively allergy free.
We have one. People used to ask me “Is that a poodle?”, now they ask me “Is that the president’s dog?”. Annoying, that is.

Maltese are fairly allergy free.

Hairless cat? Poodle? I know! Hairless poodles!
Good luck. It would depend on they are allergic to. Is it dander, hair, etc?

One suggestion is a young kitten.
Seriously.
The protein that most people are allergic to is in the cat’s saliva, transferred to their fur during grooming.
Young kittens produce very little of this protein simply by being so small. As the cat matures the owner is very gradually introduced to larger doses. Many people have been cured of their allergy by this, others are just not allergic to their own cat.
Doesn’t work for everyone but worth talking to the doctor about.

Can people be allergic to chinchillas?

Chia Pets and Pet Rocks. Both hypo-allergenic.

Supposedly Russian Blue cats are less allergenic than other felines.
I will second the Ragdolls as well – at least my mother seems to think theirs is less of a problem.

I have a very allergic little boy, every time he goes to visit family that has cats his eyes turn red. But we have 2 cats that live with us. 🙂 Ours are Siberians, they look like Persians that escaped the face stomping. When we got them I commented that they dont smell like cats.

Check out shih tzus. I’m highly allergic to cats and dogs but I’m not allergic to our shih tzu.

Actually talk to a doctor about what KCSteve said. They can desensitize you to some allergens by slowly introducing the allergen. I don’t know if they can do this with pet allergies but it would be worth asking.

Get a new AR15, name it Rover, and you’re done.

How come nobody has suggested a Glock yet?

Apparently, not all cats cause allergies. It’s basically related to their dander. And while some have commented on the hairless cat – they’re rather ugly (and this from a cat lover).
If you’ve got the cash to blow, or a few ARs to sell. Consider a hypoallergenic cat from Lifestyle Pets. They’ll run $3,950…in which case, consider buying two. A male and a female, and selling the kittens on trade for ARs.
