In NY
NY’s Top Cop Raymond Kelly says the Harlem shooter acted in self defense.
However:
It was later discovered that Augusto did not have a permit for the shotgun, which he had purchased more than 20 years earlier – and had hoped he would never have to fire.
In NY, self-defense or not, that could lead to jail time.

I don’t think so, Uncle.
Police officials said Saturday that shotgun owners are required to register their weapons with the city – unlike permits needed for handguns. Augusto’s shotgun was registered.

NYPD and the DA have declined to seek prosecution, no doubt because of the fear of public hatred. So score one (okay, score four) for the good guys.

“Mr. Augusto said he had bought the gun, a Winchester 12-gauge pump-action with a pistol-grip handle, after a robbery 20 years ago and had a permit for it.”

Better judged by twelve than carried by six imo

It never ceases to amaze me that someone in NY can be charged with a crime, serve jail time and forever be a prohibited person for something my 13 year old nephew does all the time, free and clear. I know he has at least three shotguns in his bedroom gun rack.
They are victims of geography (and of moonbat liberal weenies too).

Is this an unknown theory of physics? Has anyone ever done a study on this? Namely, that the closer people live together (urban->suburban->city), the stupider they become?
–OR–
The denser the population, the denser the intelligence?
Just asking. . .

Nope. The more black people, the tougher the gun laws. Perfect correlation, state by state and city by city. Started in the ’60s when all those uppity black people started thinking they were Americans too. For one somewhat surprising example, Alabama used to be like Vermont and Alaska. You could walk into a hardware store, buy a pistol, drop it in your pocket and walk out. Not no more. (Yes, I know Alabama has CCW.) It was because black people could do it too as well as white people.

Actually that sort of thing goes back to the 1860s and before. Big upsurge following 1865 for some reason.
