Felony Aggravated Assault

Some idiot in Knoxville decides to pull a gun on another driver. The problem with her plan was the other driver was an off duty police officer. The woman had a handgun carry permit. The local paper asked hard hitting questions like if the incident might have been caused by road rage. Gee, ya think?

I’ve ridden with several officers in their personal vehicles and have observed some driving their personal vehicles and I could understand civilian road rage. The off duty officers tend to drive a little agressively.

What I find humourous is that they would arrest some one else driving in the manner they employ should they see it while on duty.

But for what it is worth, most civilians don’t drive very well. Brakes can give out at really awkward times and the two second following rule is the minimum reaction time for most people. Mario Andretti himself could not react in the time some of you guys leave.

Sorry, I’ll put away the soap box now. Never wave your gun around unless you intend to use it.

No, you don’t wave your gun around ever.

You don’t draw your weapon unless a reasonable person would feel the situation is moving toward one of self defense necessity and you don’t point your weapon at someone unless a reasonable person would believe there was a threat of serious bodily injury or death from that person.

    Guns are not punctuation marks.

I think police have another, different, problem when they are driving their marked cars. On Austin highways, during morning commutes, most drivers go speed limit + 10mph. Whenever a patrol car appears on the highway, nobody will pass it. A giant crush of cars develops immediately in front, around and behind the patrol car, all going 0.1mph less than the limit. I’d think this would drive the officers crazy.

Of course, in this incident, there was no apparent reason to brandish a firearm. Hopefully more details will emerge.

I don’t think the lady is going to be a permit holder for very much longer…

I’m in 100% argeement about never branishing unless you intend to use it.

The first thing that came to my mind was. Hmm, maybe cops can be assholes without the uniform.

Throw the book at her. Make sure the book has an anvil attached, too.

Isn’t there a “prudent woman” standard for gun use? Obviously, he was being a PITA and she was giving him the URM (Universal Raging Hormone) symbol for “Go Ahead Buddy, Make My Day.” If they had been close enough to talk, she would have snapped at him verbally, but they had road and two cars inbetween them so she did the next best thing: Waving her gun.

Before concealed carry became so popular, she probably would have flipped him one but that’s not safe to do anymore. Any prudent middle-aged woman knows that.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
