Why health insurance is expensive
Comparative chart of the cost of medical procedures in certain countries. I dunno that I’d have the same procedure at 1/10th the cost if it was in India.

My physician wife has a German coworker. He earns 3x here what he could earn in Germany. He praises universal health care to the skies and loves Obama’s push for socialism in all areas of US life, but oddly enough he has zero desire to work in his home country in his chosen profession. Go figure.
India has a vast pool of very intelligent, talented, motivated people who are overcoming decades of socialism and caste-based bigotry that makes the black-white divide in the US look like a high school lunchroom seating issue. They will become a major world power and may be the best ally the US has against Chinese hegemony in this century.

Periodically you see stories about medical tourism, but I don’t know that it’s really a trend or just something sexy reporters use for filler. Should we pass any sort of health care “reform” in this country, it would probably be very tempting for some doctors to move abroad and set up a practice with reasonable prices for otherwise expensive surgeries that are more likely to be denied here. Hell, Canadians already use our hospital system like that, so we know there’s a market for it.

Now see, me being me, I just want to know why breast implants are 10% higher in Korea. 🙂

Because Korean women start with 10% less?

Medical tourism is popular in Southern California. Mexico is a day trip for many and a lot of things are much cheaper there, including presciption medicines.
Also, flights to Asia are cheap and nonstop out of LAX. I haven’t heard of many people going to India but I know people have gone to China (stem cell therapy isn’t even offered in the USA), Thailand, etc.

I was sick in India and received very good medical care, and all it took was my American Express card to get well.
They fixed me right up.
