My own advice: do your research first. For instance, the ATI accessories for the AK are basically junk; TAPCO’s are much better quality. I wish I’d realized this before wasting money on the ATI stuff.
5.56 AK. No recoil and compatibility with US military ammo. M4 ballistics + AK reliability. You trade some accuracy for reliability compared to the M4, but reliability is more important, especially at close range where it counts.
I already have one, but that is a good article. Even with the Obama spike in prices for the AK and its ammo, it is still good bang for the buck.
If you are even remotely interested in some variety of AK, I’d say go for it.
I thought it was a well written piece, but they need to correct the part about Dragunovs being AKs. They’re not. Two different operating systems at work.

If it could save the life of only one child, shouldn’t we all have AKs?
