And then, there were eight

States that ban lawful carry where alcohol is served.

Texas is kinda weird in that regard. You can carry in restaurants which serve alcohol, but not in establishments where 50% or more of sales are derived from the sale of alcohol. (So bars are completely out. But of course, a huge number of counties and municipalities are dry in Texas, so the issue isn’t that big a deal.)

Also weird: the definition of “drunk” for CHL holders is anything higher than 0.0 on the breathalyzer.

Good timing. I just received my permit in the mail…

Same with Washington, Bars, Pubs, etc are out. Any place off limits to folks under 21 years of age is out, which is dumb.

I wish my state (VA) would get its head out of its ass.

The numbers are a bit funky, in that two of the eight (IL and WI) prohibit concealed carry outright, while several of the non-eight are may-issue-but-won’t states like Cali (most counties, anyway). Still, nice to see things moving in the right direction, and may Carolina soon follow suit.

Michigan is almost exactly like Texas in “where you can conceal-carry”…except I don’t think there’s a specific percentage of sales mentioned in the law.

However, most MI CCW holders say that a restaurant that also sells alcohol appears to be in a different category from a bar that will also give you pizza if you ask for it. But it can sometimes be hard to tell.

karrde, same situation here in Nebraska. I’ve asked sports bar owners twice if they make more money from food or from alcohol sales. Both times they’ve said, “NO, you can’t carry in here.” One even said he wished we could.
