Continued discussion of CCW identifiers

WeerdBeard thinks it’s pretty dumb too.

John Fogh isn’t too keen on the idea either and offers some more advice.

  1. JKB Says:

First off, anything that is not on or next to the gun isn’t going to be of any use. When the police arrive they will fixate on your gun until you are disarmed. Your gun should be in your car, on something inconvenient to you or in your holster when the police arrive. If the situation calls for you to cover someone, your gun should be put down before the cruiser comes to a stop. Your permit should be kept separate from your gun so that you can show it without reaching for your gun.

Whatever you do, don’t turn around with your hand at your waist to show your permit. Most undercover and off-duty police officer are shot trying to show their badge in this manner.

  2. Texas Jack Says:

I was told: if you aren’t covering a bad guy, put your weapon down, step away from it, raise your hands and identify your self. If you are holding a bad guy, move to where you are not pointing in the direction of the cops, and identify. Do not reholster, put your weapon on the ground, or a car fender, or a table, anywhere it’s easily seen, and step back with your hands in sight. “Identify” means “I’m the homeowner” (or owner of the car, or whatever.) The officer doesn’t need your name and address yet, just why you are here. When you are asked for your identification, tell the man where it is, turn so he can see, then reach slowly.
Remember, all he can see is a man or men down and another standing with a gun. He doesn’t know you. It’s up to you to very carefully do whatever you can to make him less worried about the situation. You really need that cop to like you!

“Badges? We don’ need no stinkin’ badges!”

  4. Rivrdog Says:

The permit/license is called “Concealed Weapons” for a reason. You are in STEALTH mode with it until you draw and fire at a target. Assuming you’ve hit your target, Texas jack has the best advice.

Plainclothes police are generally trained to draw their badge when they draw their firearm.

BTW, all the training I’ve done in the last ten or so years at the police range, the command to fire is the cry “Gun!”, and if we see a gun on a car stop, etc, we yell it out like that so all the other cops will know.

  5. DONNIE Says:

Also If you are stopped and even if your firearm is out of sight of the officer, For example they pull you over for a traffic stop and it is in your console:

First words out of your mouth should be, I have a HCP, and my firearm is in my car… This will give the officer the opportunity to get you out of arms reach of the firearm until he has made sure everything is safe.

Nothing like being a sissy. I wouldn’t want to be shot, not even by a sissy, and let’s face it, that what most cops are.

  7. straightarrow Says:

Come to think of it, I have been shot by two sissies. It so happens they weren’t cops, but they were qualified to be. Their main attribute was unreasoning fear.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
