TBI Background Checks Flawed
Except, they’re not. The actual flaw is because county clerks fail to report items to the TBI. These checks are used for gun purchases and for state employment, among other things. I wonder if it’s the same check for handgun carry permits as well? After all, there’s been a few cases where people who were legally barred from gun ownership have gotten permits to carry guns.
I wonder if the clerks report accurately to the federal system? Anyway, I would imagine the state needs to fix this. If we’re going to have background checks done by the state, they should work. Otherwise, they may want to use the national system.

The national system is a lot harder to use for:
1. state jobs; perhaps patronage job assignments
2. graft for “inaccurate” reporting to TBI or “incorrect” permit issuance or “inadequate” background checks
3. a means to bash CCW laws by Democrats

It’s definitely a problem. My wife got denied on a purchase of a 10/22 because the disposition of a bad check was not listed. Case was dismissed, as the check in question had been stolen, and we had it all straightened out by the time we went to court, but since the court clerk didn’t forward that info, we had to do the legwork and fax the information to TBI ourselves. It seems in most cases, the disqualifying info gets sent, but the final outcome doesn’t unless it was a conviction. So, in most cases they are probably denying people who shouldn’t be denied.

BTW, the TBI check includes a NICS check. So they are actually checking more than just the NICS database the feds have.

Failure to report criminal convictions, innocent verdicts, nol prosses, etc., etc. and other favorable or adverse data has been a serious problem as long as I have been collecting data on gun laws. And before.
Not as serious a problem as short reporting crime numbers or even shifting crimes into non-criminal reporting categories.
I was talking to a lady yesterday about her late husbands case. “He was shot twice in the back of the head, and there was no weapon present. But they called it suicide. Durndest suicide I ever saw.” That’s Beantown for you.

I work with state employees – you expect these “job for life, no chance of being fired” people _actually_ do their job correctly?
Please….

“A few cases,” is that what you call it, Uncle? I named an entire post “Concealed Carry Criminals,” but I admit it is all in the percentages.

First, I don’t read you. Unlike you, I am not a retard and realize that, in the case of Tennessee, the 15 or so out of 400,000 is so small as to be statistically insignificant. Your post says thousands without any evidence.
