Drop in police killed in line of duty
The FBI says the number of police officers slain in the line of duty fell sharply last year.
Bureau statistics list 41 law enforcement officers killed in 2008. The list includes one FBI agent, Sam Hicks, who was shot and killed during a drug raid outside Pittsburgh.
Felony killings of police officers haven’t been that low since 1999, although police officer support groups — which use different standards to count officer killings — say the number of officers killed hasn’t been this low since the 1960s
It doesn’t fit the narrative though so don’t expect a lot of reporting:
… considering it occurred during a year where concealed carry permit applications skyrocketed nationwide, along with the sale of ammunition, handguns, and so-called assault rifles.
Gun sales went up, and the killing of law enforcement officers went down. Just another inconvenient truth.

my first thought was, “what’s a drop-in police? that anything like a rent-a-cop?”

Sounds like more guns, less crime. Seems I’ve heard that idea before somewhere.

Just a thought: what was an FBI agent doing at a drug bust?

That story doesn’t make a lot of sense because of this partial sentence:
“although police officer support groups — which use different standards to count officer killings”
What different standards do they use? The story doesn’t say. So what are we supposed to get out of the story? The headline?
I hate a lot of reporting anymore because it’s so sloppy. Fire those journalists and editors!

I’ve looked at the FBI crime statistics and they don’t say any such thing. This is just gun hugger propaganda.

The implication was that CCW and Stand your ground laws are making a dent in the target population of killers as the killers are making mistakes in target selection and instead are being eliminated.
There seemed to be increasing numbers of stories where the creeps are getting outdrawn and shot down by the supposed victim. This reduces the number of creeps that open fire on cops.
