Glocks With Manual Safeties
Apparently, they don’t work so well:
The cops on the street must have been given a different gun because their pistols were having all sorts of problems. They had magazines randomly falling out of the guns, magazines refusing to drop out when the mag release was pressed, brass being ejected into the shooters face and just plain failing to cycle. The Portuguese IPSC community, where I believe Glocks are popular, were not at all surprised.
A few weeks ago the Portuguese media discovered that the police have signed a contract with Glock to retrofit all their pistols with normal, safety-less, Glock 19 frames.

Wait – Glocks are supposed to eject cases somewhere other than into the user’s face?

To be fair that’s mostly because the safety design they selected is really stupid. It is pretty much guaranteed to be mistaken for the mag release and vice versa.

A Glock with a manual safety reminds me of the joke postcard with the Jackalope (a rabit with a rack of horns).

(My first Glock put the brass on top of my head.)

Mine puts al least one case per mag into my shirt pocket, neat as you please. Only happens at one local range, though.
Never had it come back into my face. That was Armed Canadian’s P23 for my wife though. It kind of disconcerted her a bit…

I’m very careful to point out to my rookie firearm classes that Glocks do in fact have a safety.
It’s located between their ears and should be engaged at all times.

Who says not owning a particular gun because it is butt ugly isn’t a good idea? Saved me from all those Glockenspiel type adventures.
