AR-15 Question

I have a standard A2 buttstock that I need to put on a lower. To install, I know I need a buffer spring, buffer body, buffer tube, spacer and spacer screw. Is that it? I’d hate place this order and be a part short.

You know, Brownell’s has an excellent “how to put your AR-15 together” video series, with accompanying PDFs. At the beginning of each step, they outline the parts and tools you need. They move in small steps, so they’re never describing the use of more than a few related parts at a time.

I used them when I put my first AR-15 together. Mine had a collapsible buttstock, but they had a separate video for a standard stock.

Instead of getting a “common” spring, look at this site; http://www.sprinco.com/tactical.html I’ve got the springs in my 2 AR’s and no problemo. Also, check this out. http://www.defensereview.com/m4m4a1-carbine-reliability-issues-part-ii-diagnosing-the-root-cause/

Sounds like you know what you need, and I work in the AR parts industry.

Rifle length buffer tube, spacer, rifle buffer, rifle length buffer spring, screw. PK firearms has em all in stock ready to ship.

detent & detent spring for takedown pin?

included in the lower receiver kit or the lower, but doesn’t hurt to look first.

+1 on making sure you have the detent and detent spring. Other than that, Unc, you’re GtG.

    Here’s a recoil spring, BTW:

My LEO buddy calls it my “Kool-Aid spring.”

I have found the A1 buttstock combined with the A2 buttplate to work very well for me. Are you already sure that the longer A2 buttstock is correct for you?

  9. Sailorcurt Says:

Also should come with the lower parts kit, but don’t forget about the buffer retainer and buffer retainer spring.

Look at this (picture from my NM AR build post #5).

  10. Wolfwood Says:

You have 3-4 spare detents and detent springs, right? Or am I the only one who does that whenever he builds an AR?

  11. workinwifdakids Says:

Heh. Nah, just put the lower into a gallon ziploc bag and work inside it to put in the detents and springs. It’s kind of like building a ship in a bottle, but with more elbow room. Then, you can’t launch anything!

  12. The Duck Says:

the 5 gallon are even roomier

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
