I’m not so sure that (admittedly funny) saying applies here; I don’t know anyone that can get their thumbs up their nose in a manner helpful in retrieving semi-dried mucous.
In my best Paul Hogan voice, “…now THAT’s a negligent discharge…” Altho’ it is nice to know that there are a few hot weapons on our warships in port these days(post-Cole).
The minimum number of rounds one can fire accidentally from an M240 is apparently “three,” just like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie-Roll Pop.
Welp, I guess there will not be a very large white “E” adorning the Ramage’s flying bridges come next year…
Oh, and Diogenes, I think I am allowed to say that if you were to attempt to assault a Navy vessel in port (especially overseas) today, you would be in for a relatively sizeable surprise. Granted, it all depends on the watchstanders, but that is a matter of wetware, not hardware :).
That’s Gdansk, right? Has the US ever “shelled” Poland before? Ramage may get us admitted to a unique club of nations who have done so. I’ll venture Sweden, the Second and Third Reichs, Czarist and Soviet Russia. Who’s got more? Denmark, France, Spain, Latvia? Hamlet’s father, you’ll recall, “smote the sledded Polacks on the ice.”

“U.S. destroyer shells Polish shore.”
Being slightly overdramatic, aren’t they?

I just love shelling the local backstop.
