States Rights
Couple things about this: 1) States don’t have rights, they have powers. 2) Invoking the language of states rights is not always because they’re racist.
Ok, three things. Our state politicos like to talk about this stuff a lot lately but I haven’t seen any of them refuse stimulus money or refuse all that free federal money for roads.

Preach it.
Only. Individual. People. Have. Rights.
Another thing about states’ rights: it is often selectively invoked just as questions about constitutionality.
You will seldom ever hear a “democrat”/”liberal” raise concerns about states’ rights unless the issue is a national concealed carry provision.

Correct, the States and the Federal Government only have “delegated powers”. The people have rights and they delegate powers to their governments. The people delegated powers to their respective states and then the people and the states delegated to the Federal Gov’t. And the greater always delegates to the lesser.

Eh, everything that post is race and class relations. They have a point. But they also miss out on the fact that large parts of Tennessee and Kentucky were settled by people trying to get away from the big government of the colonies/states further east. This was exacerbated by the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794 which pushed a lot more people into the region to escape Uncle Sam’s long arm. For that matter many of the immigrants were of Celtic stock and had cultural memories of oppressive events undertaken by centralized authority figures (events like the Highland Clearances).
In short, the desire for smaller government ain’t just slavery and racism. It’s a longstanding cultural issue.

Stimulus money was taken from the taxpayers, and is redistributed according to the need of the DNC in any particular state. If you live in a newly blue state that might turn red next election, Colorado for example, you get more of it.
Highway money was taken from the taxpayers, is filtered through Washingtons kidneys, and is trickled back where it came from if the DOT in the requesting state can put on a really good imitation of the organ grinders monkeys dance.
