Doesn’t the selector switch do the same thing?
This pimped IDF M4 rifle has been outfitted with an off duty carry clip that keeps the 30 round 5.56mm (.223) Magazine at the ready but in a completely safe position.

When carrying a slung long gun, lots of things can manipulate the selector/safety, trigger, and other controls.
I can see wearing a holstered, chambered and ready to go handgun for immediate action and a slung empty long gun with a ready mag.
Or if we can come up with a rifle carry method that protects the controls, then a chambered, ready to go long gun would be much safer.
Remember, they walk around with slung rifles like we walk around with concealed handguns.

WTF? Picture all the talcum-fine Middle Eastern dust that drifts into the mag and magwell.
Not to mention that, in a reactive role, by the time the soldier shoulders his carbine and inserts the mag, the jihadist has had time to kill someone.

Some US units require deployed personnel to carry their weapon unloaded but with a Magazine at the ready while on base. Most use those mag pouches that go on the stock, but a few use the IDF mag holders. I personally like the IDF style best.

Here in Israel, it’s always safety first. Accidental discharges and shootings are almost nonexistent.
IDF Servicemen and Women carry rifles constantly, both on duty and off. IDF regulations require that all Rifles be carried slung and unloaded. They also require that the magazine be ready for use at all times.
There are several methods of carrying the magazine. The mag clip method is extremely popular, practical, and safe.
I’ll try and post some of the other options later this week.
