Holiday Cheer

Head over to Brownells for Black (Rifle) Friday. They’re having an online sale.

Magazine torture tests

Shotgun News tests AR-15 magazines: Dropping mags onto cement is A LOT tougher on them then running them over with a SUV.

Good to know.

Knock Knock

Who’s there?

I ate mop.

In NC:

The Greenville Police Department and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office will be going door to door late Tuesday afternoon to educate people on gun laws and why it is important to report gun crimes.

Speaking of NY

Senator Gillibrand (D-isappointment) has sponsored some sort of gun control bill. It looks to make gun trafficking even more illegaller by making it a crime again. Gives more funding to ATF. And gives the AG more power over gun dealers.

Sebastian has a look.

In NY

The NY Daily News has suddenly become all gun control all the time. And city and state politicos are doing the same. Not sure why. New York has some of the most stringent gun controls in the nation. Sure, they’re failing. But they have them. Why, it’s like someone is gearing up because they know they’re next.

The Narrative

Hey, you remember that time Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann personally lynched a census worker? Turns out, not so much. We were onto that a few weeks ago here at SayUncle.

And don’t hold your breath waiting for the oopsies.

The health insurance bill and guns

Echoing the Bonnyman

Chris Cox, not a fan:

This ruling is a setback for Tennessee’s law-abiding concealed carry permit holders,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “We strongly urge Attorney General Robert Cooper to defend the Tennessee statute and appeal this unwise ruling.” … “Right-to-carry permit holders in Tennessee need to be aware that the chancery court’s regrettable and incorrect decision effectively suspends the law the legislature enacted and that they should not carry in restaurants until this litigation is resolved on appeal,”

More HK Rumors

Sort of confirmed:

The MR556 will be produced at Heckler & Koch’s new manufacturing facility at Newington, New Hampshire from American and German made components. To conform to German export regulations, certain design changes made in the MR556 prevents the rifle’s upper receiver from being used on other AR-style firearms.

Sticking with the non-mil-spec design for export restrictions? Anyone know of the applicable restrictions? I don’t see that helping with respect to US law.

7.62 version as well.

Update: In comments, KSR brings the skinny:

The scoop from HKPro – can’t find the link right now, but I do recall it correctly – is that the German export law is the requirement that disallows use of a MR556 upper on regular/M16 compatible lowers. Simply put, though the firearm lowers themselves will be made here in the US, and thus make it a US manufactured firearm, the use of oodles of German-made parts like bolt carriers, barrels, internals, etc. in the MR556, means the Germans won’t allow the parts out of the country unless the gun they are being assembled onto meet German export requirements.

Another PDW

Seems you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting someone making them these days. The latest I’ve seen is The PDW 7.92 VBR-B Compact. More links at Steve’s.

Climate-not-really-a-gate

I don’t like calling it climategate because 1) it’s not a grand end of the world conspiracy and 2) I hate that suffix. But the three big take aways are substantial. And the global warming cult doesn’t seem to be doing anything effective to counter the claims other than saying nyuh-uh. Denier. Heretic.

Related: Skepticism is a good thing. Active subversion of it, not so much.

Many Laughs

This site cracks me up. This bit on twitter and social media I found hysterical. Particularly #2.

Reciprocity

When I used to travel to that area, I was a bit concerned about violating the law. After all, you may end up in one of the anti-gun enclaves of the area.

Probably because they’ve never shot a Glock part across the room

But I’ve sent a few 1911 pieces zipping through the air at just under the speed of Nancy Pelosi going to the plastic surgeon.

Tam wonders why folks complain about the 1911 being hard to disassemble. It’s not. It’s just that other handguns are so easy. And don’t require tools.

Due Process Under Attack?

Folks are speculating that the bill to deny people due process of law by putting their names on a watch list is about to be introduced. Being on a list would prohibit you from buying a gun. We’ve known a while this was one goal of mayors against guns. This push would be bad. After all, you have no way of knowing you’re on the list until you try to fly or buy a gun. It’s otherwise secret and cannot be appealed. And it’s fraught with errors, since it has included senators, babies and grandmothers. And it’s not a far stretch from denying one civil right to denying another just for being on a list.

What they really want

Joe wonders what the anti-gunners are up to and discusses the Brady Campaign’s failed efforts at appearing moderate.

It is interesting the about face they are making. Some even think they’re conceding defeat now because they know it’s coming. And, this way, they can appear moderate in the future instead of being perceived as the anti-civil rights group they really are.

Naming Guns

Heh. I personally lost it at Huggy Bear.

I’ve only named one: Mister Blasty.

Quote of the day

In comments at Breda’s, Turk on the Garand:

Welcome to The Fellowship Of The Ping!

Heh.

Remington ACR

Coming the first half of 2010.

Tactical Tommy

No, not the one of internet fame, I mean a Tactical Thompson.

Length

A look at the .22 mag v. the 5.7mm. Seems to me that firing either from a handgun makes the difference. The 5.7 is better at that. Out of longer barrels, they become closer.

Boxers or briefs

Lots of briefs in the Chicago Gun Case. Many mentioned at The Chicago Gun Case Blog. A few of note found elsewhere:

Dave Kopel

The NSSF

Over 900 state legislators

38 state Attorneys general

These are in addition to the substantial majority of of congresscritters.

HK Rumor

Looks like HKs MR 223 could be coming into the states. The more important it is that it is rumored to not off the funky offset take down pin location that makes the upper incompatible with regular lowers. So, you could put a 416 upper on your standard lower.

Why, it’s like we suck a little less and HK hates us a little less today.

The error of her ways?

Gillibrand and the shoulder thing that goes up have settled their gun control differences. She’s making the error now.

Odd

Burka barbie.

I love this time of year

You get ready for the holidays, the weather changes, and crybabies in NY whine about how southerners buy their guns sales tax free and blame us for their problems. Complete with bigoted dixie reference.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
