taking FTEs to court
A small claims lawsuit over a gun malfunction. Interesting. Seems some folks have issues with their G36.

I don’t have much sympathy for the G36 owner. Maybe it’s just me, but when I hear of someone filing a product liability lawsuit, I start out prejudiced against the one suing.
That said, one fact seems to be either missing from the story, or well-concealed: how many rounds were fired successfully BEFORE THE FIRST MALFUNCTION? That’s mighty important, because the most likely cause of this series of malfunctions is dirt making the chamber/case fit too tight. The second-most likely cause is dirt in the extractor channel causing the extractor to not pivot properly. In either case, it’s dirt.
If I have a defense pistol, and I can fire the first 3 magazines through it (it starts out whistle-clean) successfully, EVERY TIME, that weapon passes MY test for reliability. Standing for hours at the range and firing many more mags (of dirty-firing cheap ammo) is something that the gun wasn’t really designed for.
What this man wants for his service is a race gun, and most of them are based on the 1911.
I have Glock defense pistols in 9mm (M19) and .40 S&W (M22). I’ve had an M23 & an M17. In the thousands of rounds I fired through them, never more than 100 rounds at a time, I never experienced the stacking malfunction. Couple of smokestacks from limp-wristing when shooting barricade positions, but nothing else.
Pistols need to be cleaned frequently, and that’s a fact of life. Glocks get dirty just like every one else’s pistols when you fire 100+ rounds through them without cleaning. A pistol is a machine, and dirt is the enemy of all machines.

Nothing is hidden in this story, or in the stories of others with the exact same malfunction. This G36 malfunctioned in the same manner 2-3 times in every 100 rounds. The G36 was cleaned after every shooting.
Rivrdog’s comments above are inaccurate, unfounded or plain wrong. Read the FULL story including the testimonials, and leave your Glock bias at the door.
