Las Vegas Courthouse Shooting
CNN:
During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Wicks fired a total of five rounds, authorities said, while the officers fired a total of 81. Wicks was shot in the stomach and fatally shot in the head, Favreau said.
Two hits? Or multiple to the stomach?

81 shots fired to take down ONE guy! It looks like LEOs get their firearm training from jihadists, pray and spray. I ofton wonder if LEOs know what those objects mounted on top of the guns are for.

They do but in the stress of the moment with the target shooting back most couldn’t tell you how many rounds they had fired. The same was probably true of the bad guy. The difference was he depending on whether he had an extended magazine probably only had four in the chamber and one in the chamber. The cops had a lot more to spray out. I know a couple of officers involved in shootings. One was asked how many he had fired and said two. They checked his weapon and it was dry. The other was a regular at the range practicing with rifle, pistol, and shotgun regularly. He could cut the center from a target regularly. He was fired on and emptied three magazines and hit jack. Part is stress of the moment, how they train, and the target shooting back. Just my opinion.

Statistics would suggest 2 hits.

“He was fired on and emptied three magazines and hit jack.”
There it is, no fire disciplne. Hav’nt these people been taught things like “when in doubt, hold fire” and “be sure of your target before shooting”? Both of those were emphasized when I was in the Mech Infantry. If the Military can train their people in fire discipline then why cant the law enforcement agencies do the same?
It’s all about training and these present day LEOs dont appear to be getting any, or they forget it as soon as they leave the acadamy. Hell, that shootout sounds like something that’d happen between rival street gangs, just spray out the rounds as fast as you can shoot and reload! Professionals? Bullshit!

I think you missed the point, Huck.
I wonder how many rounds the typical soldier fires to take down one tango.

I think the biggest problem for law enforcement is that they do not have the magic of a drill instructor to “gently” encourage better shooting. It is easy to shoot a target but something all together different when the target is shooting back.

Huck is advocating the further militarization of our police forces!
I jest, of course. I’m sorry, but 81 rounds and two hits sounds like suppressing fire. In downtown. In the middle of the day. I’m with Huck, there is no way they knew what they were shooting at with that hit rate.

Standing at your local range punching bulls eye targets is not training to fight with your weapon.
What Huck says is the truth, 40 hours of static square range training in the academy followed up with bi-annual qualifications gets you the result you see before you.
