Gura to NRA: it’s my time
Attorneys for individuals and groups seeking to expand Second Amendment gun rights urged the Supreme Court on Friday not to allow time at its podium to the National Rifle Association, saying that group is merely making a new try to get further involved after the Justices opted not to hear the NRA’s own appeal.
The plea can be seen here.

I would not trust the NRA not to sell us out, either. Good for you, Mr. Gura.

This kind of crap by the NRA is why I’m not a big fan of theirs.

I like the NRA, don’t get me wrong. But they have not been as aggressive as they could have been on the Second Amendment (to put it mildly). Kind of pussies, actually.

well, i understand the NRA’s reasoning here. But the approach, I take issue with.

NRA used to be about helping new shooters and Fudds.
Now it’s all about money and power. Kinda like our poltical parties, huh?
At least two gimme money mailors a day. Pisses me off.

Uncle, I understand the NRA’s reasoning also. That’s why I think I have slept with the enemy,….. twice.
But never again! When this membership expires there will never be another renewal. I can be betrayed for free.

Like with Heller, the NRA is trying to ride Gura’s coat tails.

Skipelec, that’s exactly what my dad said when he quit paying dues, 50 years ago. But…I understand.
Face it, NRA is “our” NGO. They have their own idea of how to walk the tight rope. And that annoying fundraising system? They just about invented it, and, hate it as we must, it has worked so well that it has revolutionized our entire politics. For good or ill.
In the background, there’s their other role as prime sponsor and arbiter of the shooting sports. Lots going on there. They spun off USAS to create a little space between Olympic- and NCAA- style competition and traditional shooting matches, and everyone saw this as a Good Thing. Lately, target and rule changes in the domestic version are getting closer to the Euro ideal — which in the long run will leave us with foam-pellet airguns and laser pointers. I can see why this is compelling, but sooner or later there will need to be a showdown. NRA’s path of least resistance must always be to the main chance, the activities likely to attract the most shooters–and the most funding. NGO’s are like that, even our own.
