“…characterized him as a weapons expert, who learned a great deal while studying for two and a half years at the Air Force Academy ”
Now I’ve got to question the credibility of the rest of the US Attorney’s statements.
What most Zoomie cadets got in those days was a familiarization run with a pistol and/or a rifle, not anything close to actually being qualified on the weapons. USAF has never taken small arms seriously outside the Spec Ops community until they started augmenting the Army in Iraq and Afghansitan.
Unless the guy had a stash of AIM-7’s or MK-82’s, I seriously doubt he increased any practical knowledge of weapons based on his USAFA experience.
I’m not sure if the Kelleher is ignorant and got his exposure to the military from M*A*S*H re-runs, or is shading the truth in favor of his case, but I would take anything he says on this with a large grain of salt.
Thanks for expanding on that, Randy. A lot of people have some pretty wacky ideas of what they study at the academies. It’s right up there with “Oh, you’re in the Air Force? What do you fly?”
I’ll tell you one thing though. Once you’re a Marine or a Mason, you’re in for life. For a guy to be an “ex-Eagle Scout,” he’s got to be one real badass.

“Robert N. Joos”
If his last name is pronounce the way I think it is, that is pretty ironic.
