So when will the polymer portion be available as an aftermarket add-on to existing MkIII 22/45s? After all, the serial number is on the receiver/barrel, so the poly. part wouldn’t be a firearm.

I’ll go with “never”, because then people will just buy the nicer aftermarket uppers and make their own MK IIs, etc. Now we have to buy a whole gun, strip it, and get left with an upper that’s worth about twenty bucks and is still hard to sell because it’s got a serial number on it.
