I am not exactly filled with joy over Scott Brown’s rather muted 2A positions – even though I sent him a few bucks as by far the lesser of two evils.
Brown could hardly be worse than Kennedy – but Coakley has it in her to exceed even that.
I do know that, among others, thee anti-gun Cape Cod Today cited Brown’s opposition to gun control as one of the reasons it endorsed Coakley, and there were several other pro 2A references from Western Mass, where there is quite a bit of support for gun ownership.
And while I also found the reference to whatever Handgun Control, Inc, calls itself this week’s claims of gun control support from Brown, I failed utterly to find supporting documentation from the 2002/3 time period. So that gets a Scots Verdict of not proven.
But (grin) Brown sure despoked Harry Reid’s ObamaCare bill in short order. And maybe the NRA knows something I don’t.
So I intend to keep my fingers crossed, hope for the best, and ship a few nickels to whoever winds up running against “Call me Senator” Boxer. Chuck DeVore, hopefully.
I read somewhere (Snowflakes in Hell, maybe?) that Brown supports shall-issue CCW. That alone puts him in the “extremist” camp by MA standards. Plus this is one of those cases where party affiliation matters. Gun control is dead for now as a national issue, but if it comes back, expect the squishy ones to side with their respective parties.
