Google and the .gov
In order to comply with government search warrants on user data, Google created a backdoor access system into Gmail accounts. This feature is what the Chinese hackers exploited to gain access.

Uhh, what?
Google making a crappy backdoor is Bush’s fault? Sweet.
Man, I built this shitty (intentionally left blank) in order to comply with government mandate (intentionally left blank). It’s the government fault that I did a shitty job! It’s not my fault for doing a shitty job, honest!
I don’t support warrantless spying upon citizens by the US Government, but give me a break.
Google is trying to cover it’s ass pretty hard core. That should be huge spark spitting the mountain is on fire sized warning singles.
We would think it would only be able to be accessed by the folks Google wants to access it because we mistakenly believe Google knows what the hell it’s doing. Sorry about that Google/CNN, those mistakes in judgment are quickly fading.

Every mail server has a “back door”, in the sense that administrators can look at the mail. It’s illegal for them to do so under most circumstances, thanks for privacy laws, but it’s always possible.
And it needs to be possible precisely in order to be able to fulfill a search warrant.
(They could of course encrypt everything so nobody could see it… but then never be able to fulfill a search warrant, and you’d be TOTALLY boned if you ever forgot/lost a password. So nobody does that.)
The only remarkable thing here is that Google managed to be so insecure about theirs (and note that all that was exposed was headers and send time, from what I’ve read elsewhere).

Look at the code that runs this website. Just saying….
