Keep your booger hook off the bangswitch. Also, a cop under investigation for domestic violence gets his gun back?

Worse than that:
I may have to do some research, now. I remember reading somewhere that the Feds consider this a conviction for a “misdemeanor crime of domestic violence” because the original charge was for domestic violence (regardless of what he pled to, and that this interpretation has been upheld in a Federal Appeals court.
This cop may actually be a “prohibited person” – in which case he committed a federal felony when he took his gun back, and the department committed a federal felony when they reissued it to him.

IIRC – the last time I filled out the yellow form to buy a weapon, it specifically asked if I ever have been ARRESTED (not convicted) for domestic violence. I’m pretty sure that disqualifies him from ever possesing a firearm. Once again, who wathes the watchers?
