That’s racist
Willie Herenton says the 9th needs to have a black representative. You know, for adequate representation. Fairness demands it! Well, in that case, it’s not fair that we have a black president. I mean, a full 87% of us aren’t black. So, how can that black guy represent my interests?
See how stupid that sounds.

He’s only half black – I’m sure that’s how.
Maybe that should be a requirement from now on?

That’s going to be the crux of Willie’s campaign. He has nothing else to run on.
Oh, wait, his opponent is Jewish. That’ll come out in the near future.

Well, at least no one is holding up a sign that “Nigar” on it like at a T-Bagger rally.
February 4th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
No, RML. He’s holding up one that says “f— you honkey voters”. Racist is racist.
February 4th, 2010 at 6:35 pm
It’s only racist if we Whites do it.

Thanks for conceding the argument before it ever started, RML.

Try looking at it this way: Two candidates. Both with identical voting records on guns, 2A and gun rights. One has never owned a gun nor even held one. Never gone hunting; never gone to a range. Reads the literature, but only at the office, never at home. The other owns a couple of pistols and a rifle. Been hunting since s/he was a kid; used to go to the range before work schedule wouldn’t allow it. Has a couple of subscriptions. Again, they have identical voting records up til now.
Which one would you vote for, as a gun owner?
Herenton has the unassailable argument: the right of people to vote for someone who looks/acts/talks/lives like them. Cohen isn’t black and never will be. There are things he just won’t understand because he hasn’t lived them. Herenton has, and that will resonate in the largely black 9th District. (Remember, too, that the 9th was *created* to have an A-A Congressman from the state.)
Folks outside Memphis just don’t understand how passionate a part of black Memphis is about Herenton. Cohen hasn’t as of yet faced a competent, accomplished black opponent in the 9th. Cohen’s supporters will no doubt find and field another black candidate, hoping to divide Herenton’s vote. White progressives here (and around the state, too; read the liberal TN blogosphere) want to keep Cohen in office for his votes on health care, gay rights, etc. They keep trying to convince black Memphis that Cohen is good enough for them. That’s the true, ugly racial fault line the local press never reports on.
Both men are tough scrappers, but Herenton has shown he’ll go as low as it takes. I don’t think Cohen will go as low, and that’s why he’ll lose. That and, well, not being black.

The black community today is as racist as the white community ever was.
Imagine a white man saying “We need a white Congressman.” Yeah. That’ll go well.

mike hollihan, I’d probably prefer the non-hunter. He wouldn’t have the old timers bigotry towards semi-auto’s, conceal and carry, or any of that noise that led Zumbo down his path of stupidity.
Ever notice how the lefties always bring up hunting with relation to gun right? As if it’s the key thing to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms?

“Ever notice how the lefties always bring up hunting….”
I hope that wasn’t meant about me! I’m conservative Libertarian, through and through. Full 2A support. My blog is all but shut down now, but take a moment to wander through it, and you’ll see. đŸ™‚

That is the problem- people equate the 2A with hunting. We might as well restrict the 1A to only protect the right to compose poetry.
