So, are there any lefty causes that are actually grassroots and not bought and paid for by someone? I’m just asking because stuff like this happens a lot.

Very few. Most can be traced to a handful of “advertising agencies” that do double duty. Funds collectors on the one hand, and anonymous slimers of political opponents on the other.

Some start out as grassroots, particularly environmental issues. Big money doesn’t usually enter into it until corporations start fighting the environmentalists.

Uh Rosie, a lot of those corporate interests aren’t fighting the environmentalists,but rather encouraging them and even funding them in order to create markets for their products. The replacement for freon being one example, CFl light bulbs being another. These are just two examples among many.
