Gun Rights in India
The WaPo:
In the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian gun owners are coming out of the shadows for the first time to mobilize, U.S.-style, against proposed new curbs on bearing arms.
Evoking Gandhi? From Gandhi’s biography:
Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.

Yeah, I noticed that – if there’s one thing that makes a gun banner go deaf & weird, it’s mentioning Mahatma’s attitude about civilian gun ownership..

“Wierd” does not even begin to describe how hoplophobes act when you point out that Gandhi not only had no problems with armed self-defense, he actually pointed out that it makes perfect sense.
Then again, “making sense” has never been a priority of those who would disarm the law-abiding.

As I read that WP article yesterday I recalled that Gandhi had made a positive gun ownership quote, which of course was conspicuously missing, but couldn’t recall the actual text of the quote? Thanks for the mem refresher.

As well, the Dalai Lama was quoted as saying: “If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” (Seattle Times, May 15, 2001).
