Obama and guns
A look:
Among the many groups that opposed Barack Obama’s presidential race, few were more certain or vehement than gun-rights organizations. “Barack Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history,” the National Rifle Association announced. “Obama is a committed anti-gunner,” warned Gun Owners of America.
So it’s no stunner that after a year in office, the president is getting hammered by people who have no use for his policy on firearms. The surprise is that the people attacking him are those who favor gun control, not those who oppose it.

Yeah, that sure stunned a few folks, didn’t it? One of the smart things he’s done (or not done, as it were), IMHO.

Obama IS to be anti-gun. Right there on change.gov under “urban policy”: “Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.”
It’s because of the opposition of the pro-gunners and millions of firearms flying off the shelves and the healthcare quagmire that Obama hasn’t been able to move on his agenda.

A president only has so much political capital to spend. He has spent it all, and is understandably unwilling to lose another prolonged fiasco.
If he’d brought America out of this economic train wreck, then he could probably take on gun control OR health care OR immigration, but not all three, and certainly not with a two-front war and America’s economy in the crapper.

If Obama was not stuck in the quagmire he is now I have no doubt he would be using his adminstration to destroy gun rights one way or another.
But he as messed up so many times all his political capital is gone. He’s geting close to being a lame duck BEFORE mid-term elections!
But if he still was on top of things I have no doubt he would tell us “we won, so sit down and shut up”, just as any Chicago politician would say.

He’s been a little preoccupied so far, he’ll get around to gun control before he gets voted out of office…not a doubt in my mind.
