Scarlet Letter Updated
Mentioned earlier a bill in MD:
Legislation introduced in both the state House and state Senate will require that gun owners have a special license to purchase handguns, and will mark their status as a license holder with a “scarlet G for gun owner” on their existing drivers license.
I noted I couldn’t find the language in the bill. The bill must have changed as Freddy notes in comments:
A regulated firearms dealer or person may only sell or transfer a handgun to another person if the purchaser or transferee presents to the seller or transferror a valid Maryland driver’s license with an approved handgun purchase designation or photographic identification card with an approved handgun purchase designation issued to the purchaser or transferee by the Motor Vehicle Administration.
I’ve searched the bills online and can’t find that language.

I think a yellow star of david would be more appropriate. Perhaps on their backs? I really like the part about ignorance not being an excuse. Basically if you understand the law differently from what the authorities do you are soon to be hanging with Big Bob. The whole thing is a convoluted mess. I am curious would not federal wiretap laws apply even over state laws? I know the federal government will hand them out to federal officers like a prescription pad but not sure if they are so forthcoming with local yocals. Cops and judges really like using that trick but their is a way around it. If you are ever told ignorance is not an excuse merely ask the officer/judge to quote what section of law your alleged crime in. Chances are they will not know. Then politely ask if ignorance is still not an excuse.

So now the MVA gets to decide if you can own guns? At least they include “or photographic identification card”, for a moment I was thinking you could only buy a gun if you were a licensed driver.
I hope for people in MD that it fails miserably.
