Are those the actual guns?
Pics of scary short barrel AR-15, sawed off shotguns, and such. The caption says:
Weapons such as these were confiscated as a result of “Operation Smoking Gun,” a yearlong investigation aimed at combating guns and gangs in Broward County. (Rafael Olmeda, Sun Sentinel / February 19, 2010)
Odd wording. Are those the actual guns or not? Doesn’t matter, really. But I am curious.

When they use weasel words like “such as these”, it means either they don’t have an actual photo of the guns taken, or the real photo of the guns taken isn’t scary enough to go in the paper.

Out of curiosity, what’s with the grip on the AR? I haven’t seen one with a hole at the bottom before. Am I just ignorant of the many variations, or is this some kind of feature of something like AirSoft?

That AR looks funny. The upper and lower look odd but I can’t quite put my finger on what is wrong with it.
Everything else looks legit. I see an SKS, AK style rifle, mac-10 clone, pistol gripped mossberg, and somebody sawed off daddy’s side by side.
That pistol looks funny too. I can’t ID it.

I have an AR grip like that – it has a hinged door at the bottom – I bought mine back in the 80’s, so they probably aren’t common any more. Makes the A1 11.5″ upper and 4-position stock seem reasonable tho.
All the guns look legit to me, which is more than I can say for the article..

Wonder how long that old ar has been circulating. Could be an original air force receiver. Would not mind having it actually.

Would be nice if someone would teach the photographer how to focus the camera and maybe how to hold the damn thing still. Could be that the pig-sticker on the SKS was just a little more than the poor dear could handle and they were all shaky over all those evil guns that could just jump up and shoot their little reporterhood off without warning. /sarcasm
“Weapons such as these…” almost invariably means they used a stock photo.

Yep! Thats a crappy hi point pistol. Possibly the ugliest POC on the market – Xavier bring back ugly gun sunday! Puhleeze!
