Even worse are the GPS enabled apps that do it automatically.
Every time I see those “here I am” apps, I think “what a stupid idea”, but I have to admit that particular angle hadn’t occurred to me. I was more aware of the ‘letting everybody in the world see exactly where I am and when whether I’m aware of it or not’ aspect. You know, when you forget to turn it off and it posts to the world that you’ve gone to the adult entertainment spot, or to your mistress’ house, or whatever you don’t want people to know.
Of course, I also have the experience of dating someone (only once) who made me very worried that I had picked up a stalker. I got lucky, but it was enough to make me appreciate what it might be like to live in constant fear of the wrong person finding you, and I still worry about the possibility of running into him by accident. I don’t like people knowing where I am unless I specifically want that person to know where I am.
