Vest Test
I managed to inherit a bullet resistant vest. I was going to spend a weekend shooting it to see what it took to make a hole in it. But then I read this comment that made me reconsider:
They’re nice to have when you’re RO’ing (or even just shooting at) a range that’s open to the public and Mr. “Muzzle safety, what Muzzle safety!” walks in.

Careful, vests have an expiration date.

Second Chance used to send free samples of vest material. About 8″x10″ for testing if you want to see what works. Mine stopped everything from .38+P to 12ga. slug with hits from each one on the sample. Pretty good stuff.Of course the phone books backing it took a beating.

A 12g slug would cause me to lose body fluids, vest or not. Gee whiz, no thank you!

I sometimes wear mine when teaching. With several students on the range not adhering to one or more safety rules is more likely.
I suggest you keep the vest and bring it to Boomershoot for when you are making explosives.

I have an Israeli flak vest that has stopped a Czech 9mm ball round and a .44 Mag JSP. I’m not eager to try it against a 12 ga. slug, esp. one of those new all-steel Baltic slugs. Blunt trauma alone could be a bitch.

Re: Comment #2
Bulletproofme.com sells “heavily worn test panels” for $50.

i wish they were legal to own here – i feel very naked when i’ve got a bunch of trainees firing on a range!
