Latest scare: Third Hand Smoke
Now, smoking is bad. No one should dispute that. But fears like this and other “science” about secondhand smoke are hysterical and far-fetched. I recall reading a “study” a bit back that said secondhand smoke had no minimum safe distance. Really? Grenades, nukes and supernovas have a minimum safe distance. But not secondhand smoke. We’re killing aliens a hundred billion light years away!
Kinda like global warming.
Legislation introduced in both the state House and state Senate will require that gun owners have a special license to purchase handguns, and will mark their status as a license holder with a “scarlet G for gun owner” on their existing drivers license.
I’ve skimmed the bill and can’t find such language. Granted, it could have changed since I read it.
You’ll recall some guy strapped on an AK pistol with the tip painted orange (so it would look like an airsoft toy) and went walking around a park. The police detained him trying to determine if his weapon was legal or not. And, since it was a pistol, it was. Anyway, the guy is now suing claiming the park rangers were unfairly harsh:
A Middle Tennessee man has sued a Nashville park ranger, alleging the officer was unfairly harsh when he saw the man carrying a large handgun in a park.
Leonard Embody says he was within his rights to carry an AK-47 handgun at Radnor Lake Park on Dec. 20. He has a permit to carry the weapon, according to the federal lawsuit.
He did not break the law. But his actions, from carrying an AK pistol with a bright orange tip to look like a toy to wearing BDUs, were not smart and not helpful. Here’s the complaint.
So, are there any lefty causes that are actually grassroots and not bought and paid for by someone? I’m just asking because stuff like this happens a lot.
11th circuit holds that porn made in one area is subject to the obscenity standards in any area where it could be viewed. That is to say, your dirty movie may violate decency standards in Mayberry so Mayberry can go after you.
In Knoxville. Principal and assistant shot. Suspect in custody.
It’s illegal to have a gun at a school.
Update: Suspect is a teacher. No carry permit.
First it was lefties calling their opponents unpatriotic. Now, the White House says if you criticize them, you’re supporting terrorism:
In an oped in USA Today, John Brennan — Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism — responds to critics of the Obama administration’s counterterrorism policies by saying “Politically motivated criticism and unfounded fear-mongering only serve the goals of al-Qaeda.”
Dissent is no longer patriotic.
Xrlqy Wrlqy discusses the term. Though I’m personally a fan of Tam’s definition.
And it turns out the Florida loophole isn’t so much a problem if you can do math.
But they continue to compare gun owners to sex offenders.
Reader LD emails:
I just saw the most amazing thing. While watching standup on Comedy Central, at around 6:35pm, I saw an ad for Henry Rifles.
The mainstreaming of guns continues.
In SC, tea party merges with Republican party. Kinda reinforces my earlier concerns.
Nashville liberal radio show host ponders:
So the same folks who want to require a birth certificate to register to vote also want to remove the birth certificate requirement to apply for or renew a handgun carry permit (see HB 2718 by Rep. Stacey Campfield, R-Knoxville).
Someone’s priorities are way screwed up not to mention unpatriotic and dangerous.
First, I guess the accusations of patriotism depend on which way the wind blows. Next, once we start licensing rights, the qualifications tend to get more and more in depth.
Coincidentally, I renewed my carry permit yesterday. I did not have to show a birth certificate. And last I voted, I didn’t have to either.
Clenched-fist salute ACK.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
