MH Media Names Erhardt Vice President

BETHESDA, Md. – MH Media, an award-winning political communications and advertising agency based in Bethesda, Md., announced that firearms industry veteran Paul Erhardt has been named Vice President. Mr. Erhardt most recently served as senior consultant to MH Media during the 2008 election cycle.

With more than 20 years’ experience in communications, marketing and public relations, Mr. Erhardt is a seasoned political veteran whose campaign experience includes races in Idaho, Michigan, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, among others. In 2008 he served as a member of the McCain for President media team working closely with MH Media to execute the campaign’s winning media strategy during the primary election season.

Paul is a good guy who has done a lot gun industry stuff.

It’s Brady Ranking Time!

About once every couple of months it seems, the Brady Campaign, trying to get some free publicity, releases their state rankings. They used to release grades but state’s grades rarely went up and showed that the Brady Bunch was not real effective. Anyway, their latest is up. I note that Tennessee gets a whopping eight points. Also interesting is some of the language they use, like:

Employers not forced to allow firearms on premises

Colleges are not forced to allow firearms on campus

They seem to push this falsity that folks have a right not to have firearms around them. Interesting. Bitter puts the rankings in context of grades:

There is no right to own arms in Massachusetts. That is still not good enough for the Paul Helmke. What is good enough? Confiscation?

Probably why they stopped using grades. MA is third but would gets only a 54.

Blame

A day after some guy who was a bit loopy flew a plane into a building, the pundits and internet are trying to guess whether this guy posted at Democratic Underground or Free Republic. Seems there’s a value in classifying a nut job as one of your enemies. One side says he’s a tea partier because of his anti-tax message. The other points out he whined about no free healthcare, embraced communism, and hated George Bush.

How about we all just settle on crazy?

A point:

Actually, if you read the manifesto, you see that he is not upset at big government itself but that big government never helps him.

Via Billy, who notes:

Everybody with a political axe to grind will be throwing this dead cat back & forth across opposing fences until even after the body is disintegrated, and it might be helpful if people knew what the game was really about.

At least Sudden Jihad Syndrome is a bit easier to classify.

Hope and change

The new policy was to be the feds wouldn’t raid medical marijuana dispensaries if they were complying with state law. Not so much.

Speaking of people losing guns

ATF may want to investigate DHS.

Ammo in your guns, that are in your car, that might be near a restaurant that is near alcohol

A bit back, a law was passed in TN allowing carry permit holders to keep a rifle in their car if a round was not chambered. Now, a bill has been introduced to let anyone keep a rifle in the car.

Cool

Japanese astronaut is twittering pics of Earth from space.

Does the tea party know about this?

Oink: Republicans lead the earmark list.

Bill O’Reilly: Congress, president are extremists

One more reason not to like this bonehead.

O’Reilly says that the .gov should confiscate guns during an emergency. To think otherwise is extreme. So, those extremists in the US legislature who passed a law forbidding that are extremists. Hell, even Barack Obama voted for that bill.

Gun Porn

Bushmaster before and after.

Tacti-Awesome 22 pistols. Those would make a fun SBR project too. Via the firearm blog.

Part of the problem

Tam on why some police/federales have a bit of an issue with proper gun handling:

This is one of many things that stems from the “Only Ones” mentality so rightly derided in parts of the blogosphere. People who don’t even like guns, who have been culturally conditioned to actively dislike them, are issued one and expected to suddenly embrace it and care for it.

More Climate Data Problems

NASA stonewalled FOIA requests. Potential data problems. Meanwhile, a complete list of everything caused by global warming. Heh.

Big Teacher

A school in PA sent laptops home with students. Trouble is, they were set up with webcams that the administrators could activate to spy on people. Aside from the privacy concerns, the other troubling thing about this is that no one will go to jail. And someone should if you want to prevent this kind of stupidity from ever happening again.

Return of the Astra

Frank James tells us it’s back. And Swiss.

I’m all for it

But I’d pick a different day. Utah is looking to commemorate John Moses Browning with this own holiday.

Update: Guy burned down his house and flew a plane into IRS offices.

Update: suicide note.

Update: A lot of crazy blame in that note. Reason seems to be trying to figure out which particular crazy internet board the guy would have posted on.

the homeland is secure

Homeland Security loses a lot of guns:

The nation’s Homeland Security officers lost nearly 200 guns in bowling alleys, public restrooms, unlocked cars and other unsecure areas, with some ending up in the hands of felons. The problem, outlined in a new federal report, has prompted disciplinary actions and extra training.

Most of the misplaced weapons — including handguns, shotguns and military rifles — were never found. “Most losses occurred because officers did not properly secure firearms,” says the Homeland Security inspector general report.

More on the Sabre Defence Raid

AP:

The company released a statement saying one or more employees may have obtained and resold some items without appropriate licenses. The company says it’s cooperating in the investigation.

Copy of actual presser at subguns:

NASHVILLE, Tenn., February 17, 2010 – Sabre Defence Industries LLC, an established manufacturer of firearms and weapon systems to the United States military, state and local law enforcement, and worldwide commercial markets, is fully cooperating with federal agents in an ongoing investigation into potential criminal misuse of certain non-saleable firearms produced by Sabre and purchased by some its employees. Sabre has received information that employee(s) involved in inventory control may have obtained and re-sold some items without appropriate licenses. Sabre is and has been cooperating with federal agents in this investigation.

Sabre has more than 120 employees in its Nashville plant. Sabre’s biggest customer is the United States military. Sabre products used by United States armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan include .50 caliber barrels and components of the M2 Browning machine gun, 7.62 mm mini-gun barrels, and M-16A3 and A4 rifles. Sabre is the only non-public company in the world ever to be awarded a contract for a military spec M-16 rifle. Sabre is dedicated to continuing to provide high quality firearms to the United States military, state and local law enforcement, and Sabre’s commercial customers.

Two great tastes that taste great together

The first and second amendment:

A Pittsburgh-area community college will let a student form a campus chapter of a group that promotes the rights of students to carry concealed weapons.

A Community College of Allegheny County spokesman says Christa Brashier must provide a copy of the group’s revised constitution by March.
Brashier threatened to sue after school officials, at first, refused to let her pass out leaflets advocating concealed carry rights in May. After getting permission, she pressed forward with her efforts to form a local chapter of a Texas-based nonprofit, Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.

Zing

On the media’s favorite carpetbagger:

“Southern voters are interested in solutions,” said Harold Ford Jr. in 2003. “They can spot a fake.” Perhaps this explains Ford’s subsequent decision to decamp from the South in search of a more gullible electorate.
