A dangerous right
That’s the new anti-gun meme. After a long time of saying the enumerated right to arms wasn’t actually a right, they’ve come around. Now, it’s called a dangerous right, nay, the most dangerous right. Joe disagrees:
I agree that guns can be dangerous. But it is far from the most dangerous right. I would like Mr. Henigan to do the arithmetic on how many people have been murdered based on the following books:
The Bible
The Koran
The Communist Manifesto
Mein Kampf

Those books didn’t leap off the shelves and knock people on the head. They required people to do the killing.
Books don’t kill people. People with books kill people.
Where have I heard something like that before?
Anyway, I agree with the linked post. Enumerated right equals “strict construction” in legislative and judicial limitations upon the exercise of that right.

Yes indeed … after Newsweek reported that guards had flushed Korans down the toilet, the riots that followed resulted in the deaths of dozens of people in the days that followed. So, I guess we would have to include Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press as dangerous rights now, wouldn’t we?

Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press are only as dangerous as the made-up stories of NEWSWEEK – the Koran-flushing story was a lie.
