If this same advance in gunnery were to happen in the US the media would paint him a sociopath and he would probably end up in a loony bin…. Awesome gun though (if it actually works)…
meh I suspect this is just a really big coil gun.
which reminds me I wanted to build an optically switched multistage coil gun, I should get on that now that I have access to a machine shop…
Well, nearly noiseless, and only until the projectile exceeds the speed of sound.
Yes, it says it’s a railgun.
The only actually interesting part is how hilarious it is that Pravda acts like this is somehow impressively new.
(I mean, it’s impressive that a 15 year old kid threw it together as a project. But it’s not technologically impressive in itself.)
And as usual with anything Pravda prints, even if much of it is true, much of it is laughable – “Russia’s Defense Ministry has shown interest in the new electomechanical rifle the performance of which exceeds that of sniper weapons.“.
I’m guessing “performance” must be rather uniquely defined in this context, such as dealing solely with sound, because I don’t see a hand-cobbled railgun being more accurate or more powerful than a sniper rifle.
The electric gun as cool as it may be would never cut it in the modern battlefield. An electro magnetic pulse would render it as useful as a baseball bats. Imagime whole divisions with no smallarms at all.
