Accidental or negligent?
Or do gun nuts just have impossible standards? Could be. But the key thing about the rules of firearm safety: you have to break at least two of them to really ruin someone’s day.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Actually, you have to violate the trigger rule and one other rule to ruin someone’s day. You can violate three rules, and as long as you don’t violate the trigger rule, you haven’t ruined someone’s day. If you do it around me, I’ll chew your ass out and ask you to leave the range, but as long as your finger stays off of the trigger, you haven’t ruined my day.

I think the “two rules” idea is better – it accounts for the (extraordinarily rare and unlikely, but real) possibility of sudden mechanical failure causing a discharge – i.e., the hammer/striker slipping off the sear, the sear breaking due to improper hardening at the factory, etc. You still have to break two rules to ruin someone’s day, even if it goes “bang” without the trigger ever moving.
