I enjoy this type of article because it publicizes and emphasizes the legality of the behavior by the law abiding citizen. And the legal behavior is being exercised during a political protest, to boot, linking the ownership of firearms with legal exercise of political rights. That is a good association to create in the mind of the public.
Such “advertising” works. My local gun range has a 20 foot tall US flag painted on their outside wall, facing the street. Everyone who passes by must subliminally or consciously associate Red’s Shooting Range with patriotism. Not a bad concept.
Last night at a local sporting goods store, I waited as a gun counter salesman was working with a young couple who wanted to look at several guns, with a first-time purchase in mind. After handling both pistols and revolvers, the couple asked some intelligent questions including where they could try out some guns. The clerk responded, “You can rent all these type guns at Red’s, you know, the building with the giant flag on it.” The husband responded, “Oh, yeah, honey, you know, just down the street from our church.” So even nonshooters got informed by the publicity.
